A young NFL player tragically died in a car accident early Saturday morning, just hours after posting a heartfelt message on social media.
Police reports say a speeding car collided with the vehicle carrying the 24-year-old athlete and two of his friends.
The player, recently drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, died at the scene, along with the driver, who was his high school teammate.
Another friend, also a former teammate, was taken to the hospital but later passed away.
The day before, the player shared ten photos on Instagram, capturing key moments in his life, including his time at Vikings practice.
The post, simply captioned “Mmmhmmm,” showed him smiling on a beach with parrots, flexing with a lizard, and wearing stylish clothes in front of a mirror.
One photo compared “dreamers” and “doers.” It showed a group labeled “dreamers” watching a man, labeled “doer,” surfing a giant wave. The player truly lived as a “doer.”
His path to the NFL was inspiring. After high school, he began at Fort Scott Community College, later joining the Oregon Ducks and Alabama Crimson Tide.
He became the Ducks’ top cornerback in the 2023 season, which led to his selection in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft.
The Minnesota Vikings expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
In a statement, they offered support to the player’s family and provided counseling for those affected by the tragedy.
“He became a beloved member of the team with his confidence and lively personality,” said Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell.
He also mentioned the player’s dedication to improving himself for his family and others around him.
The crash happened at around 3 a.m. The player and his friends were driving a Dodge Charger when a speeding Infiniti pulled in front of them.
The Charger swerved, crashed into tree stumps, and the Infiniti also hit a Chevrolet Impala. Fortunately, the people in the Infiniti and Impala were not hurt.
The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed yet.
