In an exceptionally mean-spirited moment on ABC’s talk show “The View” on Thursday, February 13, the panel of ultra-progressive hosts stooped to a new low, ridiculing Elon Musk’s four-year-old son during a segment almost entirely centered on criticizing the billionaire entrepreneur. The main target of their mockery was the child's unique name, X Æ A-XII.

The subject of their discussion was a live-streamed address that Musk and former President Trump held from the Oval Office. The press conference primarily focused on the extensive corruption and waste that Musk, along with his Department of Government Efficiency, had unearthed. Throughout the event, “Lil X,” as Musk affectionately calls his son, remained in the room, sitting quietly on the floor near the desk.

Kicking off the disparaging portion of the segment, Whoopi Goldberg remarked, “So yesterday, Elon Musk brought his son X to a press briefing—” Before she could finish, her co-host Joy Behar interrupted to question, “X?” Shaking her head dismissively, Whoopi followed up with a sarcastic remark aimed at the boy’s name, saying, “I didn’t choose that name.”

Behar, still fixated on the child’s name, reiterated, “That’s really his name?” Whoopi Goldberg, whose birth name is Caryn Elaine Johnson, retorted, “And I don’t want to hear any more nonsense about our names, got it?” She then continued, “Anyway, he took little X—” Behar, unable to resist another jab, quipped, “Or should we say, little Instagram.”

At that moment, Sarah Haines interjected to clarify that Elon Musk does not own Instagram, but Whoopi continued her tirade, shifting her criticism to Musk’s parenting decision. “He doesn’t own Instagram, he just decided to drag Lil X along. To a press conference in the Oval Office, no less, just to push back against critics who believe he shouldn’t have the authority to dismantle a federal agency.” You can watch the clip here:

Despite the outright hostility displayed by Whoopi and her co-hosts, many individuals online responded with kindness and support for Musk and his son. Actor William Shatner, for instance, commented on a clip of Musk and X, humorously asking, “Is that one of your young engineers working for DOGE? I heard you hire young, but this is something else! 😉 #adorable.”

Replying to Shatner, another user noted, “That little guy and kids his age have the most to gain from any effort to reduce the national debt. Let’s not leave the burden on them!”

Will Cain, making light of the situation, commented that Musk’s decision to bring his son along demonstrated his capability for the role, stating, “Honestly, I think we should trust a man to root out fraud and waste if he’s so frugal he won’t even hire a babysitter. @elonmusk.” A supportive user echoed that sentiment, writing, “This is a man who scrutinizes how our government mismanages finances while simultaneously managing his own ventures. And let’s not forget, he remains composed with his son playing with his hair. It’s refreshing to see a man take pride in his child.”

Another user praised Musk’s parenting, emphasizing that his hands-on approach is commendable: “One of the most admirable things about @elonmusk is his desire to be personally involved in shaping his child’s worldview rather than leaving X in the care of a nanny. So, I say, hats off to him for excelling in yet another area!”
