After spending four years living as conjoined twins, Kendra and Malia’s parents made the difficult decision to have them surgically separated. The aim was to provide the girls with the chance to experience independent lives. Each girl retained one leg after the procedure. Over time, they adapted remarkably well, learning to walk and even run with ease.

In 2006, the separation surgery was carried out. It was a complex procedure that involved a team of 31 doctors working for over a day to ensure its success. When news of the operation spread, Kendra and Malia quickly gained widespread attention and recognition.

For the first fourteen years of their lives, the girls had to adjust to living independently after being conjoined. This process required gradual acclimation to their new circumstances. Along with attending school, the girls occasionally received education at home. They developed a shared love for drawing and became quite skilled at it. Their resilience and determination served as an inspiration to those around them, proving that no situation is without hope. Among their peers, Kendra and Malia became known as heroes and role models at school.

Now 18 years old, the sisters lead fulfilling lives while navigating their unique circumstances. Despite having the option to live independently and pursue separate paths, they continue to maintain a close bond. Both girls successfully completed driving school and are now skilled drivers. They also use social media and their YouTube channel to share their personal stories and experiences, attracting tens of thousands of followers who admire their journey.

Additionally, the Herrin sisters stay in touch with the mother of Kelly and Carter, another set of conjoined twins. Drawing from their own experiences, Kendra and Malia offer guidance and support to the family. While Kelly and Carter’s parents have not yet made a decision regarding separation surgery, the twins are considering that path for their future.
