On Thursday, February 13, former President Donald Trump unleashed a fiery response after Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) uncovered a startling revelation about the Pentagon. The investigative team at DOGE identified a significant, wasteful expenditure—an exorbitant, multi-million-dollar agreement between the Department of Defense and Reuters.

Trump took to social media to express his outrage, condemning the Pentagon for approving an astonishing $9 million deal with Reuters, a media organization of such magnitude that it rivals the Associated Press. The reason for this financial arrangement remained obscure, raising serious concerns, particularly because Reuters is primarily a general news platform. The nature of its research into “large-scale social deception” for the Department of Defense, along with the extent to which it utilized its media network to conduct this work, was deeply perplexing.

Using his Truth Social platform, Trump fiercely criticized the entire initiative and insisted that Reuters reimburse the taxpayer money, stating, “DOGE: It appears that the Radical Left-aligned Reuters was handed $9,000,000 by the Department of Defense to explore ‘large-scale social deception.’ RETURN THE FUNDS IMMEDIATELY!”

Shortly after, in a subsequent post, he turned his attention to another alarming expenditure—the substantial amount of federal funds allocated to Politico subscriptions. He wrote, “DOGE: Why did Politico receive millions of dollars for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING? Are they attempting to buy the press? RETURN THESE FUNDS TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE! How much money has the failing New York Times taken? Is this the financial lifeline keeping them afloat? THE GOVERNMENT IS FUNDING THE MEDIA!”

The issue surrounding Politico has become an increasing focus in recent discussions. Addressing reporters during a press conference, Trump Administration Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt disclosed that DOGE had unearthed extensive financial transactions directed toward Politico. In response to these revelations, she announced that the administration was putting an immediate end to these payments.

During the briefing, Leavitt even took a playful jab at Politico representatives present in the room, remarking, “I have just been informed about significant funding provided by USAID to various media entities, including Politico—who, I might add, has a seat right here. The $8 million you have been receiving ends today. The DOGE team is terminating these payments as we speak.” A clip of this announcement quickly gained traction online.

Weighing in on the issue, former Congressman Ron Paul shared his thoughts on X, writing, “A deeper look into the workings of the establishment has exposed an alarming reality: The vast majority of mainstream media—on a global scale—has been secretly financed by the U.S. government under USAID. From the BBC to The New York Times and Politico… At this stage, the more pressing question is—who in the media HASN’T been receiving USAID funds?”

Taking a broader stance on the rampant misuse of taxpayer money uncovered by DOGE, Trump posted, “DOGE has identified vast sums of FRAUD, WASTE, INCOMPETENCE, AND ABUSE. Yet, despite these findings, a highly partisan, activist judge insists that payments must still be made. In essence, they demand we proceed with payments even when we have clear evidence that they were fraudulently obtained. DOGE exposed them—yet the judge refuses to acknowledge the truth. This is completely illogical!!!”

Furthermore, turning his criticism toward FEMA, Trump did not hold back, asserting, “FEMA has funneled tens of millions of dollars into Democrat-led areas while blatantly disregarding directives, leaving the people of North Carolina abandoned in their time of need. This misconduct is now under thorough review and investigation. THE BIDEN-ADMINISTERED FEMA HAS BEEN A TOTAL FAILURE. FEMA SHOULD BE DISMANTLED! IT HAS PROVEN TO BE INEFFICIENT AND WOEFULLY INEFFECTIVE. STATES SHOULD MANAGE DISASTER RESPONSE ON THEIR OWN—THIS WOULD SAVE SUBSTANTIAL FUNDS AND OPERATE FAR MORE EFFICIENTLY!!!”

As these shocking discoveries continue to unfold, the ramifications of DOGE’s findings are expected to spark further debate regarding government accountability, media funding, and the prudent use of taxpayer dollars.
