Mel Gibson proposed a ‘crazy’ conspiracy theory about the LA wildfires after his home was destroyed, which left many baffled
Actor Mel Gibson has shared his perspective on the Los Angeles wildfires, and his comments have left many people perplexed.
The star of Mad Max lost his Malibu home, valued at £12 million, during the devastating fires. His reaction to the tragedy sparked significant backlash.
“I can dream up all kinds of terrible scenarios in my mind—conspiracy theories and the like—but it just felt a bit too convenient that there was no water,” Gibson said. “And that the wind conditions were ideal and there are individuals ready, willing, and capable of starting fires.” He speculated that the destruction might have been orchestrated to clear homes from highly valuable land.
After reports emerged that a suspect had been arrested in connection with one of the fires, the actor questioned whether the individual acted alone or had been "commissioned" to carry out the act.
In an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on The Ingraham Angle, Gibson elaborated on his suspicions. “Some of these people they’re catching seem to be very well-prepared,” he said.
“I’m aware that they’ve been interfering with water supplies, releasing reserves for various reasons,” Gibson continued. “They’ve been doing this for some time. California has numerous issues that are difficult to understand when it comes to decision-making.”
The actor expressed further doubts, stating, “When events like this happen, you start to wonder—was it intentional? It’s a crazy thought, but it makes you question whether there’s a purpose behind it. If there is, what could that purpose be? Do they want the state emptied out? I don’t know.”
“They seem highly equipped, these individuals who are being apprehended,” he reiterated.

Gibson’s remarks ignited debate, with many criticizing his views. “Conspiracy theories seem to be his last attempt at relevance,” one Twitter user commented. Another wrote, “While Californians are battling fires, these two are busy stirring the pot.” A third added, “Shameful.”
Laura Ingraham also weighed in on Gibson’s statements, noting there had been prior speculation about plans for high-density housing developments in areas affected by the wildfires. The acclaimed actor likened the situation to “old cattle barons driving people off the land.”
