On the day I turned 80, all I wanted was to see my daughter, so I planned a surprise visit. As she opened the door, she looked uneasy and said, “Dad, what are you doing here?”
I grinned and told her, “I wanted to celebrate my birthday with you.” But her reply surprised me. “Dad, you can’t stay. I’m really busy.”
I felt upset and suggested sitting on the couch until she had time, but she firmly said, “No, Dad, you have to go now.” I slowly made my way back to my car, but then I heard sounds from inside the house.
Worried, I peeked through the window and spotted two unfamiliar people inside. Concerned for her safety, I dialed the police.
They got there quickly and moved towards the house carefully. Soon after, they walked out with the two people in handcuffs. My daughter came out crying and hugged me tightly.
“Dad, I’m so sorry,” she cried. “These men broke in right before you got here. I was so scared and didn’t want you to get hurt.”
I was relieved as I embraced her. “It’s okay, darling. I’m just happy you’re okay.”
After talking to the police, who promised us the criminals would be punished, my daughter and I spent the rest of the day together. It ended up being the most unforgettable birthday ever.
