Selena uploaded a clip to her Instagram stories, which led to significant criticism. The video was her response to the most recent immigration regulations introduced by the newly elected government in the U.S.

"My people are under attack, especially the children. I just don’t get it. It breaks my heart. I wish I had the power to do something, but I feel helpless," the 32-year-old musician tearfully stated in the footage.

"I'm not sure what actions to take. I will do everything in my power, I swear," she continued. However, many viewers accused her of shifting the focus of the situation onto herself. One commenter stated, “She’s unbearable.”

"Selena always makes everything about her emotions. Now is not the moment for dramatic tears—it’s about actual human lives being impacted," another person remarked. Someone else suggested, "Instead of crying on video, she should use her influence to promote helpful resources, contribute financially, or spread awareness in a more meaningful way."

Nevertheless, some defended her. One user responded, “You all just dislike it because it’s Selena—she genuinely cares.” Another echoed a similar perspective, writing, "So now showing concern for your community is considered ‘making it about yourself’?”

However, the backlash seemed overwhelming, leading Gomez to remove the video shortly after. She then posted a message against a plain black background, stating, “Apparently, showing compassion is unacceptable.” That post was also deleted soon after. This isn’t the first instance of Gomez sharing an emotional video on her social media.

The entertainer has spoken about immigration issues before, even opening up about her own family's journey in the 2019 Netflix docuseries Living Undocumented.

She has actively participated in various charitable organizations, including Unicef, and established the Rare Impact Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to financing mental health research initiatives.
