After a huge fight with her husband, Charles, Jess decided to give him some space. Charles said he’d stay at his best friend’s house overnight and return the next day to talk. Jess hoped they could fix things.
The following morning, Jess kept herself busy in the kitchen. She prepared a special meal for when Charles came home. To pass the time, she scrolled through social media. Then, she saw something that made her freeze.
It was a post from Linda, Charles’ mother. The post was shocking. It showed an unflattering photo of Jess with a caption that read:
“Cheers to fresh starts! My son left this crazy gold digger. Charles is single again! Ladies under 25, message me if you’re interested.”
Jess couldn’t believe her eyes. Her hands shook as she called Linda, barely containing her anger.
Linda answered the phone cheerfully. “Hello?”
“What is this, Linda?” Jess demanded, her voice shaking.
“What do you mean?” Linda replied, pretending to be clueless.
“This Facebook post!” Jess nearly screamed.
“Oh, that,” Linda said casually. “Charles didn’t tell you? We both decided it’s time for a breakup. Honestly, Jess, you’re not the right fit for my son. He deserves someone better.”
Jess was in shock. “Better? I’m his wife! The woman he chose to marry.”
Linda’s tone stayed smug. “Well, Charles called me last night. He was upset about your fight and said some harsh things. I thought it was time to step in. Clearly, he’s done. You should move on gracefully.”
Jess was speechless. “You think you can announce this? It’s humiliating. What will people think?”
Linda didn’t care. “He said he’s tired of the drama. I figured you’d understand.”
As Jess tried to process this, Charles walked in. She showed him the post. His face turned pale as he read it.
“Jess, I didn’t know about this,” Charles said, shocked and full of regret.
“You didn’t know? Your mom told the world we’re divorcing! How could she do this?” Jess cried.
Charles admitted he had vented to his mom about their fight but insisted he never mentioned divorce. “I was just upset, Jess. I didn’t mean for her to think it was over.”
Jess felt overwhelmed but saw that Charles was being honest. “Is it really this bad? Should we think about ending it?” she asked quietly.
“No, Jess,” Charles said firmly. “We need to talk and work on things, but I don’t want a divorce. Do you?”
Jess shook her head, relieved. Charles immediately called Linda and told her to delete the post.
Linda was upset but agreed to take it down. Afterward, Charles turned to Jess. “I’m so sorry. I never wanted this to happen.”
Tears streamed down Jess’s face. “This is so embarrassing. Everyone thinks we’re splitting up because of your mom.”
Charles promised to fix things. He even suggested renewing their vows to show their commitment. Jess hesitated but eventually agreed. She saw it as a chance to heal their relationship.
They planned a small vow renewal ceremony in their backyard with close family. It was simple and meaningful. It helped them reconnect and reaffirm their love.
After everything, Jess and Charles worked on their communication. They also tackled their financial struggles. Jess pursued her dream and started culinary school. Their marriage grew stronger, and Jess found new career opportunities.
As for Linda, she learned a tough lesson about boundaries and respect. In the end, Jess and Charles became even closer.
