Just before her birthday, Jon Bon Jovi’s mom, Carol Bongiovi, died.
The singer called her a “powerful presence.”
Carol passed away three days before turning eighty-three.
At 62, Jon expressed deep feelings about Carol after she died on Tuesday at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, New Jersey.
Jon shared with PEOPLE, “Our mom was a powerful presence; her spirit and ability to get things done shaped our family.”
“We will really miss her.”
Carol, once a Playboy bunny, started her son’s band’s fan club.
She met her husband-to-be, John Bongiovi, Sr., after joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1959.
They moved and raised their kids in Sayreville, New Jersey.
Later, they moved to Holmdel, New Jersey, where she stayed until her death.
Holmdel Funeral Home is set to handle Carol’s private funeral.
Her three sons, Jon, Anthony, and Matthew, and her 63-year-old husband will mourn her loss.
Jon has often mentioned that his parents were incredibly supportive of his early music ambitions.
In November 2020, he told The Big Issue, “Even if you’re not skilled, you can improve if you believe you are.”
“As I got older, I appreciated my parents’ support even more.
“They really thought John F. Kennedy was telling them to go to the moon.” “Of course, you can go to the moon. Just go, John. I’ve been there.
Jon recalled how his parents supported his early performances at seventeen.
At that age, his parents let him play at gigs, helping him chase his dreams.
Looking back, he found their support astonishing, saying, “Because I might have to be at school by eight o’clock and come home at one or two in the morning.”
“They just expected me to be on time for school, you know, that’s my duty, but also to follow my dreams.”
Jon married his high school sweetheart, Dorothea Hurley.
They have three sons, Jesse, Jake, and Romeo, and a thirty-one-year-old daughter, Stephanie.
Jake, a model, married Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown in a small private ceremony in May 2024, reported first by The Sun.
Millie and Jon’s parents attended the small wedding.
He shared his excitement about the wedding with The Sun the previous week.
“My grandchildren will inherit more English roots than Italian or any other background I might have,” the musician exclaimed.
“Suddenly your kids are married and talking about having kids? Incredible!” he said. “This is definitely the longest chapter in my life.”
