My wife and I were completely stunned when we got kicked out of my friend Tom’s wedding—for ordering pizza after the buffet ran out.
What started as a drunken plan to feed ourselves quickly turned into a mess of drama, making us rethink our actions and friendships.
We had been excited for Tom and Linda’s wedding for months. It was a small gathering of about 70 guests, mostly family. The atmosphere was full of love, and the decorations were beautiful.
“Everything looks so pretty,” my wife, Sarah, said, admiring the setup.
“Yeah, they really went all out,” I agreed. “Tom and Linda look so happy.”
Everything was going smoothly. We sat with friendly strangers at our table and clicked with the couple next to us, Jane and Bob. We had a few drinks and waited for the food to be served.
After the ceremony, we returned to our seats, and the emcee announced the buffet would open. Tables were called one by one, starting with family.
We thought that made sense, but as we watched family members fill their plates, we started to worry.
“They’re really piling on the food,” Sarah whispered.
“I know,” I said, feeling my stomach growl. “I hope there’s enough for everyone.”
By the time our table was called, the buffet was almost empty. We scraped together a few leftovers—barely enough for a couple of bites. Our tablemates weren’t happy either.
“This can’t be all that’s left,” Jane said, staring at her empty plate.
Bob, frustrated, shook his head. “Ridiculous! I’m still starving!”
We tried to laugh it off, but the mood had changed. Tom came by to apologize for the lack of food. Even though we told him it wasn’t his fault, we were still hungry.
As we sat there, Bob joked, “Wouldn’t it be funny if we just ordered a pizza?”
We laughed at first, but then it didn’t seem like a bad idea. “You know what? Let’s do it,” I said, pulling out my phone. I called a nearby pizza place and ordered four large pizzas and wings.
“Thirty minutes,” the delivery guy promised.
When the pizzas arrived, I met the delivery guy outside, feeling both relieved and excited. Walking in with the boxes, some guests looked curious, others envious.
“Did you actually order pizza?” a guest asked, surprised.
“Yep!” I said, smiling. “Help yourself if you didn’t get enough from the buffet.”
We shared the pizzas with nearby tables, and the mood at our table brightened again. We laughed, ate, and felt proud of our solution.
But not everyone was happy. Linda’s father approached, looking serious.
“Where did this pizza come from?” he asked sternly.
I explained the situation, trying to stay calm, but when he asked for a slice, I couldn’t hold back.
“Honestly, no,” I said. “Your family ate most of the buffet food. We had to order this just to eat something.”
His face turned red, and without saying more, he stormed off. I could feel the tension in the room rising as people stared at us. Linda, the bride, was glaring, and whispers spread among the guests.
Tom came back, looking uncomfortable. “Mike, I hate to say this, but you and Sarah need to leave. Linda’s family is really upset about the pizza.”
“Are you serious?” I asked, shocked. “We were just trying to feed ourselves!”
“I know,” Tom said, sounding sorry. “But it’s causing too much tension. Please, just go. We’ll talk later.”
Frustrated and embarrassed, Sarah and I gathered our things and left. What had been a fun evening turned awkward and upsetting in minutes.
A few days later, Tom called to apologize. “Mike, I talked with Linda and her family.
They realized there wasn’t enough food. Linda’s really mad at her family for taking so much.”
“Thanks, Tom,” I said, feeling relieved. “It was a tough situation for everyone.”
Tom then told me Linda’s father was planning an “After Wedding Shindig” to make up for the lack of food. He was going all out, with plenty of food, drinks, music, and even axe throwing and a bonfire.
“Wow, that sounds amazing,” I said, surprised but happy. “I can’t wait.”
Looking back, I saw how a simple lack of food led to unnecessary drama. But it seemed like things were turning around, with an even better event coming up.
