Donald Trump made history as the first sitting president to ever attend the Super Bowl this past Sunday.

The 47th leader of the United States arrived with an extensive group, including multiple relatives, yet one notable absence was evident—Melania Trump. The First Lady was nowhere to be seen in New Orleans, where the Philadelphia Eagles secured a win against the Kansas City Chiefs. This sparked widespread speculation, with social media users falling into two opposing viewpoints regarding her absence.

Meanwhile, insiders have provided fresh details about Melania Trump’s experience in her role as First Lady—indicating that her perspective on the position differs significantly from those who held it before her.

The return of Melania and her husband to the White House was bound to stir debate and ignite discussions. The pair left Washington in 2021 after completing their first term, but now, four years later, they are back in the political spotlight.

During the years between Trump’s presidential terms, the former Slovenian model maintained a relatively low profile. However, she is now once again a subject of public interest. Furthermore, ongoing speculation regarding the status of her marriage with Donald, along with persistent rumors of discord, refuses to fade.

Recently, Donald and Melania marked two decades of marriage. Their grand wedding at Bethesda-By-the-Sea occurred on January 22, 2005, and returning to the White House together may have been one of the most symbolic gifts to commemorate their 20th anniversary.

Throughout Inauguration Day, the couple was seen sharing a few personal moments. While Melania is no stranger to the public eye, behavioral expert Abbie Maroño noted subtle details that many might have overlooked. Speaking with Newsweek, Maroño suggested that Melania displayed signs of unease regarding the public focus during her husband’s swearing-in ceremony.

“The First Lady’s choice of a wide-brimmed hat seemed to create a physical barrier, complicating a moment when President Trump attempted to kiss her, resulting in an awkward air kiss,” Maroño observed. “This could have been a way to shield her face, hinting at discomfort with being under scrutiny. The absence of eye contact, smiles, or any physical closeness between them reinforced this sense of unease.”

At the inaugural ball later that evening, President Trump and Melania took part in the customary first dance. At first, both appeared stiff, but the atmosphere gradually relaxed when Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha, along with military personnel, joined them on stage. The shift in dynamics resulted in a more comfortable exchange between the couple, with Trump becoming visibly engaged and Melania smiling during the dance.

Although Donald and Melania have spent decades as a high-profile couple, that does not mean their relationship is without tension. Reports of disagreements—including the well-known jacket incident during Trump’s initial presidency—have often surfaced in the media. In her memoir, Melania even disclosed that she is a staunch advocate for abortion rights, a stance that conflicts with her husband’s views.

The First Lady is determined to demonstrate her individuality beyond simply being Trump’s spouse. In a Fox News interview, Melania elaborated on how she provides her husband with counsel, though he does not always take it.

“Some may perceive me as merely the President’s wife, but I stand firmly on my own, independent, with my own opinions, my own ‘yes’ and ‘no,’” she stated.

“I don’t always see eye to eye with my husband on certain matters, and that’s perfectly fine. I offer my perspective, and sometimes he takes it into account, other times he doesn’t.”

Melania Trump “knows how to balance her husband,” claims her photographer.
Reflecting on her first tenure as First Lady, she admitted: “I feel like people didn’t fully accept me or understand me back then, but maybe that has changed now. I also didn’t receive much support.”

It is no surprise that Donald and Melania don’t always align on everything—after all, every marriage has its disagreements. Nevertheless, the couple remains strong after 20 years together. In early February, Melania’s personal photographer, Régine Mahaux, provided fresh insights into her current life as First Lady.

“There’s a strength within her—she is a powerful woman—but at the same time, she embodies a subtle influence. She excels at balancing her husband,” Mahaux told Hello! Magazine, noting that he often wonders how she finds the strength to persist.

“They have endured a lot. She is committed. She loves him, and he loves her,” he added. “She always knows where she belongs. She supports her husband from behind the scenes. He takes the spotlight; she doesn’t seek attention. She is an excellent No. 2. Her priority is always her husband, and I admire that about her. She values family and embraces her role as a dedicated wife who ensures their happiness.”

Melania assumed the responsibilities of First Lady during her husband’s first term despite skepticism about whether she was suited for the role. Today, it is evident that she proved the doubters wrong.

“She’s not the same person she was eight years ago.”
This time around, however, things will be different—not just because of her experience, but also because of how she has evolved, according to Mahaux.

“She has always been involved, but now she has more freedom to make statements,” he explained. “She’s not the same as she was eight years ago, yet she has remained true to herself. The energy feels different this time, especially with the new team that the President has surrounded himself with.”

It is clear that Trump’s second term will not mirror his first, but for Melania, the biggest shift will be that she does not plan to reside in Washington full-time. The First Lady has long emphasized that her son, Barron Trump, is her main priority. Despite her role in the administration, she intends to focus on Barron, who is currently attending Stern Business School.

Although Melania has shared her aspirations for her second term, an insider told People Magazine that she will not allow White House duties to dictate her life.

“She does not feel obligated to be involved in politics. However, she does have a deep concern for children and their well-being,” said a source familiar with Melania’s life in New York and Palm Beach. “Any contribution she makes to this administration will depend on her availability and interest.”

Melania Trump “is indifferent to her political image,” insider claims.
The same source likened Melania’s approach to navigating her husband’s political career to that of his first wife, Ivana Trump, and his second wife, Marla Maples.

“Melania is intelligent, much like Ivana,” the insider stated. “But whereas Ivana worked alongside Donald on business ventures, Melania leans more towards Marla’s approach—preferring to remain discreet when possible.”

According to People Magazine, politics “isn’t Melania’s world.” She reportedly maintains a small social circle consisting primarily of close family members and a couple of trusted friends. While Donald Trump is allegedly concerned about how his wife is perceived politically, the source emphasized that Melania “couldn’t care less” about public opinion regarding her image.

“You can understand more about Melania through her actions—or lack thereof—rather than her words,” the source explained. “Just because she stays quiet in a group setting doesn’t mean she’s uninterested or detached. Her mind is occupied with her daily life and personal priorities. Donald follows his path, and she follows hers. When they converse, she speaks her mind and he listens. Does he always act on her advice? Not necessarily, but it has happened.”

Melania remained largely out of the public eye leading up to the final months of Trump’s campaign. She was recently seen accompanying him to Los Angeles and has made a few appearances, but her absence at the Super Bowl raised questions.

Social media users debated why Melania Trump skipped the Super Bowl.
Donald Trump became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl. On Sunday, he arrived at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, joined by several family members, including his son Eric Trump, Eric’s wife Lara, his daughter Ivanka Trump, and her 7-year-old son Theodore.

However, Melania’s absence puzzled many online. Some social media users took to X to question why she didn’t attend, with reactions ranging from genuine concern to jokes at her expense.
