Meghan Markle Details Moving Moment She Had With Her and Prince Harry’s Daughter Lilibet
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, and her young daughter, Princess Lilibet, shared a heartfelt moment during their inaugural international journey since stepping away from royal responsibilities.
Motherhood, as Meghan is coming to realize, comes with its own set of complexities and emotional depths.
During her and Prince Harry’s three-day visit to Nigeria on May 10, the Duchess of Sussex couldn’t help but recount a touching exchange she recently had with their two-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet, while speaking to students at Lightway Academy.
As she addressed a group of kindergarteners, Meghan warmly remarked, “Our little girl, Lili, is significantly smaller than all of you,” as reported by People. She then added, “She’s about to celebrate her third birthday soon. Just a few weeks ago, she looked at me and, in the reflection of my eyes, she saw herself. Then she said, ‘Mama, I can see myself in you.’”
The 42-year-old reflected on her daughter’s innocent words and how deeply they resonated with her. Although Lili had meant it in the most literal sense, Meghan interpreted it on a much more profound level. “Yes,” she recalled thinking, “I do see myself in you, and you recognize yourself in me.”
Turning her attention back to the students, Meghan continued, “As I look around this room, I see myself in each and every one of you as well.” Prince Harry sat beside her, smiling as she spoke.
Throughout their visit, the couple—who are also proud parents to five-year-old Prince Archie—immersed themselves in interactive activities with the children. They took part in music sessions, engaged in energetic dance lessons, and played games, bringing joy to the young pupils. Meghan playfully mentioned, “That’s Lili’s absolute favorite class,” noting with amusement, “Maybe it’s because of all the jumping around!”
Although Meghan and Harry strive to maintain a level of privacy when it comes to their family life, they occasionally provide small glimpses into their world as parents.
Back in February, during an appearance on Good Morning America, Prince Harry shared a brief update, saying, “The kids are doing fantastic.”
Like all children, they are growing up swiftly. “They both have an incredible sense of humor,” the 39-year-old prince continued, “and they bring laughter into our home every single day. They keep us grounded—just like children do. Honestly, I feel so fortunate to be a dad.”
