Two people holding their ground can lead to a clash. In the story today, a woman stood up to her stubborn sister because she had a big reason: her wedding was coming up.
They planned to marry in the fall.
This October, my fiancé and I are getting married. We got engaged in January and are thrilled. Our wedding will be small, with just close family and friends invited.
The problem is my sister, Lisa. She has a 2-year-old son and is married. I can’t explain all the reasons here, but Lisa and I aren’t very close.
We sent out wedding invitations last month. We asked everyone to be at the venue by 1:00 p.m. because the ceremony starts at 1:30 p.m. The wedding is near our hometown, so it’s easy for Lisa and most guests to get there.
Lisa said her toddler’s nap time at noon made the schedule difficult. She said she couldn’t disturb his nap to get him ready, as he’d become cranky. I found her reason unreasonable, even though I don’t have kids.
When I suggested she get a babysitter, Lisa said her usual sitters were all coming to the wedding. She then said she wouldn’t make it to the wedding at all. I offered that they could just come to the reception.
She replied that if we didn’t change the time, she wouldn’t come. I told her we couldn’t change it. Then she decided she wouldn’t attend. This hurt me deeply. I ended the call quickly as I was at a loss for words.
A few days later, Lisa asked what I thought about her proposal again. I repeated that we couldn’t change the time. She hoped I was happy that they wouldn’t be there and said everyone would wonder why. She accused me of not including my nephew and said the world doesn’t revolve around her and her son. I called her out on this, and she blocked me after labeling me a bridezilla.
Despite my mom’s urging, I still don’t feel like I should apologize to Lisa.
