Just when it seemed like every possible trend had already been explored, a whimsical new style emerged: halo brows.
As with many unconventional beauty trends, halo brows owe their rise to the ever-eccentric realm of social media. Platforms such as TikTok and Instagram have become hotbeds for imaginative, boundary-pushing ideas that challenge traditional beauty standards.
Halo brows, which create a halo-like arc across the forehead by connecting both eyebrows into a single loop, were the brainchild of Hannah Lyne, a 16-year-old influencer from the UK. Her quirky design went viral almost immediately after being shared online.
In the caption accompanying her Instagram debut of the trend, Lyne explained the origins of her idea: "So me and [a friend] were talking about the fishtail brow trend, and then we came up with this." The post quickly gained attention, sparking both excitement and confusion among viewers.
In an interview with Pop Sugar, the young beauty blogger clarified that her creation wasn’t just a joke. Instead, it was inspired by the existing fishtail brow trend. "I was chatting with a friend, brainstorming new ideas for looks, and it hit me – why not connect my brow tails?" Lyne explained.
When speaking further with Yahoo Style, she elaborated on her motivation: "I just want people to feel free to embrace silliness and experiment with fun, creative looks!"
As with many social media-born trends, halo brows elicited a wide range of reactions.
Some Instagram users were quick to praise the originality of the design. Comments poured in, lauding Lyne’s artistic vision: "I love it!" exclaimed one user, while another wrote, "Your creativity is off the charts – all your looks are so original!" A third admirer added, "How do you even come up with these ideas? You’re so talented, and your execution is always flawless!"
However, not everyone shared the same enthusiasm. Many viewers were less impressed, dismissing the trend as little more than a "ridiculous" gimmick. One Instagram user bluntly commented, "Vomits uncontrollably," while another admitted, "I can’t tell if this is a joke." One particularly harsh critic declared, "This makes me want to delete Instagram."
Despite the polarizing opinions, there were those who viewed the style with intrigue. Cosmopolitan even described the "heavenly halo brows" as "strangely beautiful" and praised the boldness of the design. The publication wrote, "Prepare to meet this unconventional yet strikingly gorgeous take on brow artistry."
