At their gender reveal party, Misha and Jerry were filled with joy and excitement. After two years of trying, several doctor’s visits, and emotional ups and downs, they were finally expecting a baby. The party was a celebration of their long-awaited happiness, surrounded by loved ones.

“We made it,” Jerry said, hugging Misha tightly. “This is the beginning of forever.”

Misha smiled, agreeing. They had planned a big event with decorations, desserts, and a cake from a local bakery. The cake was important because Jerry’s mother, Nancy, was in charge of revealing whether the baby would be a boy or a girl.

Nancy was excited to play a big part in the pregnancy. She promised them that she had it all under control. “I’ll take care of the cake and a special gift for my grandchild! I just know it’s a girl, and I can’t wait to spoil her!”

On the day of the party, Misha’s mom helped with the decorations, filling the house with blue and pink. Nancy arrived dressed all in black—a strange choice, but no one thought much of it. The mood was cheerful, and both families gathered in excitement for the reveal.

Jerry and Misha stood by the cake, ready to cut it and find out the baby’s gender. Phones were out, and cameras were recording. Everyone counted down together.

“Three… two… one!”

They cut into the cake, but when the first slice was lifted, the room went silent. Instead of pink or blue, the inside of the cake was completely black. No color, just pure black.

Misha and Jerry stared at each other, confused. The happy mood disappeared as people whispered in confusion.

Misha looked around and spotted Nancy. Her black outfit now made sense. Tears were streaming down Nancy’s face, and she looked like she was about to cry.

“Nancy, what’s happening?” Misha asked, her voice shaking.

Nancy hesitated, wiping her eyes before finally speaking. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know what else to do… I had to.”

Jerry, trying to stay calm, asked, “Mom, what are you talking about? Why is the cake black?”

Nancy took a deep breath, clearly struggling to explain. “Ten years ago, I went to a fortune teller with my sister. She told me something I’ve never been able to forget. She said if my first grandchild was a boy, it would destroy your life, Jerry, and bring illness to me.”

Gasps filled the room. Jerry couldn’t believe it. “Mom, you’ve believed this for ten years? Over something a fortune teller said?”

Nancy nodded, tears falling down her face. “I know it sounds crazy, but I was terrified. Everyone said she was always right. I thought if I made the cake black, maybe it would stop the curse. I even baked bay leaves into it, hoping to change the future.”

Misha rubbed her temples, trying to process the bizarre situation. “So, you let a superstition ruin our reveal?” she asked, holding back her frustration.

Just then, Jerry’s cousin Megan spoke up, looking at her phone. “Wait a minute… was the fortune teller’s name J. Morris?”

Nancy perked up. “Yes, that’s her!”

Megan showed the room an article. “She was exposed as a fraud years ago. She took advantage of people’s fears and made a lot of money from it.”

Nancy’s face crumbled as the truth hit her. “All these years… I’ve been scared for nothing,” she whispered, clutching her chest in shock.

Jerry, still upset, ran his hand over his face. “Mom, you let this ruin such an important moment.”

Nancy cried softly, “I’m so sorry. I just didn’t know how to let go of the fear. I never wanted to spoil your day.”

Despite everything, Misha couldn’t stay angry. Seeing Nancy so upset softened her heart. She walked over and placed her hand on Nancy’s. “It’s okay, Mom. Now we know. And now, you can enjoy the rest of this pregnancy with us, no more worries.”

Nancy looked up, her eyes full of gratitude. “Thank you, Misha. I’m so sorry.”

Jerry, with a small laugh, asked, “Wait… does this mean we’re having a boy?”

The room filled with laughter, breaking the tension, and even Nancy managed a small smile. Megan took a picture of the cake. “This is going on Instagram—#GothBabyReveal.”

In the end, everyone grabbed a slice of the black cake, laughing about the weirdest gender reveal they had ever seen. It wasn’t what Misha and Jerry had imagined, but with love, laughter, and family, it still felt perfect.

Now, they just had to wait for the baby, and they were ready for whatever the future would bring.
