Once upon a Christmas, I had to cut my holiday celebrations short at my future in-laws’. Why? Because my fiancé gave me a gift that left me speechless – and not in a good way. Especially since I had gone all out and gifted him a PS5, saving for months to get it!

Let me paint the picture: My fiancé, a pediatrician, makes way more than I do as a hairstylist. But that didn’t stop me from getting him the one thing he really wanted. After a lot of effort and a bit of help from a relative (who charged me extra!), I managed to snag a PS5 for him.

My Future Husband Didn’t Put in Any Effort

Fast forward to Christmas, and it’s gift-exchange time. Everyone’s watching as he hands me my gift. And what do I find? A pack of toothpicks. His sister bursts out laughing and even records the whole thing. “Do you like it, or should I give it to my niece?” he joked. I was stunned. I had to hide in the bathroom to escape the laughter and let out a few tears.

Then, surprise! He knocks, claiming it was all a prank, blaming his younger sister for the idea. But the damage was done. I couldn’t take it anymore. A huge argument erupted, visible to his entire family, and I ended up calling it quits and heading to my mom’s for the rest of Christmas.

The Aftermath

His mom blamed me for the gloomy mood, but my mom was my champion, defending me fiercely. The next day, my fiancé showed up with a “real” gift, apologizing and pinning the blame on his sister. But honestly, the whole ordeal left a sour taste in my mouth.

I shared my story on Reddit, seeking opinions. The support was overwhelming, with many saying I did the right thing. “I would have left as well. And maybe reconsider the engagement,” one person said. Another added, “He and his family are mean. You made the right decision.”
