Before addressing the nation, Donald Trump, who had just taken the oath of office for the second time, officially assumed the role of the 47th president of the United States. Accompanied by his wife, Melania Trump, the president began his inauguration day with a visit to a church service. This marked the start of the ceremonial events that would culminate in Trump’s swearing-in, officially signaling the conclusion of Joe Biden's presidency.

During his inaugural address, Trump proclaimed, “The golden age of America begins right now,” positioning himself as both a “peacemaker and a unifier.” His speech was filled with optimism and a promise to lead the nation into a prosperous future.

In the heart of Washington, D.C., amidst a crowd of loyal supporters, Trump wasted no time setting the tone for his presidency. Standing before an enthusiastic audience, he signed a series of executive orders, symbolizing the start of his administration's work. In a show of charisma, he added a dramatic touch by tossing pens into the crowd as souvenirs for his supporters.

However, one moment that captured public attention occurred shortly before Trump entered the chamber to take his oath. Just moments prior, he attempted to kiss his wife, Melania, who was dressed in an elegant outfit complemented by a custom-designed hat by Eric Javits. The hat, however, appeared to cause a slight misunderstanding, as Melania turned her cheek instead of accepting the kiss directly. This brief, awkward moment resulted in what appeared to be an “air kiss” exchange between the couple.

Body language expert Judi James later analyzed this interaction and provided insight into what Melania’s reaction might signify. Speaking to Paddy Power, James described how Donald Trump approached the event with an air of confidence and control. She noted his “slow, alpha presence” and a “mouth-shrug smile,” which suggested he was taking the occasion seriously while maintaining a sense of calm authority.

When Trump reached for his wife’s hand, James observed that his gesture was “tender” and had a romantic quality to it, comparing it to the hand-holding often seen in wedding ceremonies. As he leaned in to kiss her, it initially appeared that he intended to go for a traditional kiss on the lips. Melania, however, tilted her face slightly, initiating a cheek kiss instead of a mouth-to-mouth kiss.

The result was a lighthearted moment where the couple exchanged a small, audible “mwa” with their mouths. Despite the seemingly awkward interaction, James noted that Melania’s body language conveyed contentment and happiness with the exchange.

“Melania beamed at her husband during this moment,” James explained. “It was not only an acknowledgment of her role but also a signal that she felt valued, seen, and recognized as an important partner in this new chapter of their journey in the White House.”

Although the couple appeared slightly out of sync during this specific moment, James suggested that this was likely due to the enormity of the occasion and the weight of the responsibilities they were stepping into. Overall, the interaction still reflected their partnership and shared commitment as they prepared to take on the challenges of their roles in the White House.
