Barbra Streisand sang about Donald Trump in her song “Don’t Lie to Me,” criticizing him as a “tyrant.” She warns that if Trump, who has been indicted four times, wins the 2024 election, she will leave the United States.

Streisand, a singer and actress, told Stephen Colbert she cannot stay in the U.S. if Trump becomes president again.

This isn’t the first time Streisand has spoken about leaving the country. Other stars also didn’t follow through on their plans to move to Canada or Europe after Trump’s 2016 win.

Streisand, at 81, was serious when she said, “Yes, Mr. Trump, let’s make America great again. But first, get one thing straight: America was great – before you were elected.” She has long opposed Trump, calling him “the Liar in Chief, the Groper in Chief.”

In 2018, she released her 36th album, “Walls,” influenced by Trump, who she criticized for his impact on democracy.

Speaking to the Associated Press, Streisand expressed her sadness and frustration with the political climate, saying she was fighting for the “soul of America.” The album includes the song “Don’t Lie to Me,” inspired by her disgust with ongoing lies in politics.

In her 2023 memoir, “My Name is Barbra,” she discusses the role of artists in society, suggesting they act as a moral compass and often challenge societal norms. She believes that art opposes tyrants.

Despite her efforts, she didn’t influence the election outcomes.

Before the 2016 elections, Streisand told an Australian outlet she might move to Australia or Canada because of her disbelief in Trump’s capabilities.

Other celebrities like George Lopez and Chelsea Handler also mentioned leaving the U.S. if Trump won, though Handler later decided to stay. Comedian Jon Stewart joked about leaving Earth, and Cher tweeted about moving to Jupiter.

Post-2016, Streisand praised President Joe Biden in a 2021 interview with People, appreciating his direction for the country.

In a Variety essay, she criticized Trump’s negative impact on the U.S.’s global standing and called for a return to truth and integrity in America.

Recently, on The Late Show, she reiterated her inability to live in the U.S. under Trump, mentioning a possible move to England.

Streisand’s latest comments highlight her ongoing disappointment with Trump and the political situation in the U.S.
