Rumors have swirled since 2018 about a mess involving the Aquaman movie series. Recently, a producer confirmed a rumor about tension between two stars of the film.

Talk about a clash between Jason Momoa and Amber Heard started in 2018 during Heard’s intense legal fight with her former husband Johnny Depp.

Depp and Heard met in 2009 and tied the knot in February 2015.

In the early stages of their divorce in May 2016, Heard accused Depp of physical abuse, which he denied.

A jury in Virginia sided with Depp, and initially, Heard had to pay him over $10 million. However, this amount was later reduced due to state limits.

Depp had to pay Heard $2 million after she sued him for defamation.

In 2023, when the sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, was released, viewers noticed Heard’s role was much smaller compared to the first film.

Heard mentioned that some of her scenes were cut, sparking suggestions that her legal defeat might have influenced her reduced role, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Some believed the reduced screen time was because Momoa and Heard lacked on-screen chemistry and simply didn’t get along.

This belief grew stronger after reports in late 2023 suggested Momoa taunted Heard during filming and even mimicked Johnny Depp’s style to mock her.

Variety disclosed notes from Heard’s therapy that described a tense and uncomfortable relationship with Momoa. One note mentioned, “Jason wanted me fired. Jason drunk — late on set. Dressing like Johnny. Has all the rings too.”

A DC spokesperson told Variety that Momoa was always professional on set. Another source disputed Heard’s claims, saying Momoa works hard, enjoys an occasional beer but is professional and does not mimic Depp.

Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, is set to read a CBeebies Bedtime Story this Christmas (BBC).

The notes also mentioned that the film’s director, James Wan, couldn’t promote the sequel on social media due to the media frenzy over Heard’s defamation trial.

A DC spokesperson denied this, praising Wan for his respectful and collaborative leadership on set.

Producer Walter Hamada explained that the sequel was meant to focus more on Aquaman and his friend rather than Heard’s character, which is why she appeared less.

Hamada commented that it’s not rare for film leads to lack chemistry, which can be compensated with “movie magic and editorial” efforts and a “great score.”

“If you watch the movie, they look like they had great chemistry. It was just hard work in post-production to achieve that,” he concluded.
