Adam Sandler ‘kicked out’ of Oscars over hilarious outfit
Adam Sandler Storms Out of the Oscars After Conan O’Brien Playfully Roasts His Outfit
Adam Sandler stomped his way out of the Dolby Theatre, making a dramatic exit after being called out by Conan O’Brien for his ultra-relaxed fashion choice at the glamorous Academy Awards.
On the evening of March 2, Hollywood’s biggest names dazzled on the red carpet in front of the iconic Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, preparing for the 97th annual Oscars—an event that celebrates cinematic excellence.
Determined to leave a lasting impression at the final major awards show of the season, celebrities showcased their most extravagant ensembles, from elaborate gowns and designer tuxedos to sparkling embellishments and eye-catching silhouettes.
And then, there was Adam Sandler.
Casual and Carefree
“For a night of such grandeur, it’s absolutely essential that everyone arrives looking their best, wouldn’t you agree?” quipped 61-year-old Conan O’Brien, who was hosting the prestigious 2025 Oscars. “And most people understood the assignment. And then there’s Adam…”
During his much-anticipated opening monologue, O’Brien took a playful jab at Sandler, who was nestled among the sea of elegantly dressed A-listers, standing out like a sore thumb.
“What’s up, my guy?” the Happy Gilmore actor, 58, responded nonchalantly from his aisle seat, his head partially concealed by the hood of his sky-blue sweatshirt. He had paired the casual hoodie with a pair of knee-length shorts and well-worn Steph Curry sneakers, looking more ready for a pickup game than Hollywood’s biggest night. “What’s the deal, man?”
Upon being asked about his outfit, Sandler hesitated briefly before retorting, “Nobody was even thinking about what I was wearing until you had to go and make it a thing.”
Seizing the moment, O’Brien quipped, “Adam, you look like a guy who just wandered in from an all-night gas station slot machine session.”
Leaning into his signature laid-back charm, the Grown Ups star fired back, “Listen, I’m comfortable, and that’s all that matters. I’m a good dude. I don’t stress over whether my wardrobe meets some fancy expectations. If my cozy gym shorts and fluffy hoodie offend you so much that you felt the need to roast me in front of the entire industry…”
Feigning guilt, O’Brien glanced downward at his podium, pretending to reflect on his supposed misstep.
Sandler Makes His Exit
Rising from his chair, Sandler declared, “That’s it! I’m outta here! I can’t stay for this!”
The crowd immediately erupted with objections, shouting, “No! Don’t go!” urging him to remain in the theater.
“It’s not you guys,” Sandler reassured them. “It’s him.”
He then pointed directly at O’Brien, who was struggling to keep a straight face, barely suppressing his laughter through the hilarious back-and-forth. “This is on you, man! You made this happen!”
As murmurs and chuckles filled the room, Sandler added one final announcement before making his exit. “Anyone who wants to join me for some late-night basketball, I’ll be at Veteran Park running five-on-five. Midnight tip-off. And just so you know, the guy from Nosferatu? He’s on my squad.”
A Friendly Jab at Chalamet
Before heading toward the exit, Sandler made a detour to 29-year-old Timothée Chalamet, who had earned a nomination for his role in the 2024 film A Complete Unknown.
Pausing in front of the young star, Sandler suddenly bellowed, “CHALAMET!” in an exaggerated, booming voice before pulling him in for a bear hug. The audience roared with laughter, bursting into applause as Sandler strolled out of the theater.
This was a direct callback to a viral moment from the Golden Globes earlier in the year, when host Nikki Glaser had remarked that Chalamet’s name sounded like something Sandler would dramatically yell in one of his classic comedic performances.
When put on the spot by Glaser at the time, Sandler delivered exactly as expected, gleefully bellowing “CHALAMET!” in an over-the-top voice that had the audience in stitches.
