Aria, a 32-year-old woman with a disability, was abandoned by her mother when she was eleven. Throughout the years, Aria harbored hope for her mother’s return, shedding countless tears over the betrayal by the one she loved most. When the long-awaited reunion finally happened, Aria delivered a lesson her mother would never forget.
Aria’s Mother’s Betrayal
Life has never been kind to me. At the tender age of eleven, my mother left me, a woman I deeply admired and cherished. She had separated from my biological father when I was just one, and I never knew him. He vanished because doctors predicted I’d likely spend my life in a wheelchair, and he couldn’t handle the responsibility.
Left alone with me, my mother faced numerous challenges raising me. She eventually met my stepfather, Leo, a man of exceptional kindness and care. After their marriage, Leo enveloped us both in a world of love and support we could only dream of. Everything seemed perfect until one day my mother decided she no longer wanted us in her life.
Leo’s Unwavering Support
My mother vanished one day. Leo and I were at a rehabilitation center, and upon our return, she was gone, along with all her belongings. All she left behind was a short note saying, “I can’t do this anymore. You’re a burden that stole my best years.”
I cried for months, blaming myself for my mother’s misery. I felt my life was over, consumed by sadness with no relief in sight.
Yet, one person managed to save me: my stepdad, Leo. He gave me a reason to live and fight. He was there every minute after my mother left, enduring his own pain but never showing it. He remained strong and positive, even in our darkest moments.
Leo’s Guidance and Inspiration
Leo spoke to me often, explaining many things and always treating me like a princess. He was the one who inspired a life-changing step.
Aria’s Career Success
Today, I am a successful attorney at a prestigious corporation, holding a high-level position and earning a comfortable living. All of this is possible because Leo believed in me and supported my education and career.
School was tough, with classmates often teasing me, making cruel comments about my parents abandoning me. Leo, always protective, told me I needed to learn to defend myself and others using the law. This became my driving force to become a lawyer.
Since childhood, I aspired to advocate for people with disabilities, helping them succeed and navigate their challenges. I followed my passion, graduated from a top law school, and my career quickly flourished.
An Unlikely Reunion
One day, my mother reappeared after 21 years, showing up at my house unexpectedly. She knocked on the door, asking for a chance to talk. Surprisingly, I felt nothing seeing her, though I recognized her immediately.
She began speaking, claiming she left because Leo mistreated her, insisting he did many wrong things. I knew she was lying, but she maintained that his infidelity caused her stress and decision to abandon us.
She confessed she was now destitute, with no money or place to live, and demanded I repay her for raising me until I was eleven. I was stunned and outraged by her audacity. I asked her to sit and left the room. In my home office, I opened my safe, took out some cash, and returned.
I handed her $10,000, saying, “Here’s $10,000, the money I owe you. Each year you were my mother costs $1,000. This is your caregiver salary. I know this isn’t what you expected, but I had expectations too.
As your daughter, I expected you to be there, to love and care for me. You didn’t meet those expectations and were fired when I was eleven. Now, you have your salary. Leave and forget about me for now.”
She was speechless, unable to cry. She left, and I felt broken yet justified. I knew I had done the right thing.
But Leo said I was too harsh, expressing his disappointment. What would you have done in my situation?
