Here’s my story, told from my own perspective, and let me tell you, it’s quite the rollercoaster!
I’m Meghan, and I’m just about ready to marry the love of my life, Rob. But, boy, our families could not be more different. I grew up in a fancy environment—my dad’s a well-known doctor, so you can imagine the kind of circles we moved in. Rob’s background? Completely opposite. He comes from a humble family.
Our wedding is right around the corner and it’s going to be a grand affair, with some very VIP guests from my side. To make sure everything runs perfectly, I came up with a few rules specifically for Rob’s family.
The moment my mother-in-law read these rules, she looked like she’d seen a ghost. The next day, she phoned us up and dropped a bombshell: they wouldn’t come to the wedding if these were the conditions.
Wondering what those rules were? Here they are:
1. “Please send me pictures of your outfits a week before the wedding, so I can make sure they fit the event’s fancy vibe.”
2. “Instead of gifts that cost less than $200, it’s okay to not bring one at all.”
3. “I’d appreciate it if you didn’t show up in old cars. How about renting something a bit newer? I can help pay for it!”
4. And to my mother-in-law, I said, “Please don’t wear that blue satin dress you picked out. I’ve chosen something else that I think will be just perfect for you.”
Looking back, were my rules a bit much? All I wanted was to have my dream wedding, just like I always pictured since I was a little girl. But maybe I went too far. What do you think?
